City or Suburbs - Where are the best rental deals?
There is a debate that no home renter can shy away from – City or Suburb? Do you get a cozy apartment near to work or a spacious home in the peaceful suburbs? For long it has been mostly based on the budget constraints of a person. However, the gap between the rent is reducing all the time! Urban rents are just $ 0.18 per sq. ft higher than the adjoining suburbs and it makes a whole lot sense to cut down on the travel time. The difference in rent for similar sized accommodation would be as less as 50 USD a month which is less considering you already pay close to $1600 or more for either, thanks to the housing economy!
So the choice boils down to more than just the budget constraints – Lifestyle is one consideration. If single and in love with the nightlife and social buzz, a condo in the city would be your choice. However, if you like to unwind in peace or have a family that loves having a backyard or needs space for your kids to play around then the suburbs are your only choice. Also, suburbs offer you more bang for the buck and also has a good number of choices. Duplex houses, garages, sit-outs – you name it, a realtor would find it for you!

City accommodation has a few tricks up the sleeve too! There are a good number of apartments that offer great views, balconies, rooftop decks, indoor pools etc. to make up for the loss in real-estate space. The city also has a good number of amenities nearby with anything you need just a walk away. Most American suburbs, though well-stocked with essential supplies, just cannot match the city for the sheer choice on offer.
However, the telling differentiating factor for most would be whether you have kids or not. Most people with kids would prefer the suburbs for the better educational standards, more choice in schools, tutors, camps etc. The extra space and less traffic will also contribute towards this choice. But if you single and ready to mingle, get an apartment in the city and have some fun!
