The average asking rent in Victoria fell to $2,255 in March, down 5.6 per cent from a year ago, according to the latest report from Rentals.ca. One-bedroom units dropped to $1,975, while two-bedroom apartments declined to $2,584. The decrease follows a brief increase in February that had ended a 16-month streak of falling rents, suggesting that the earlier bump was temporary rather than a sustained turnaround. ?What we?re seeing in Victoria is no different than what?s happening across the country right now,? said Giacomo Ladas, associate director of communications at Rentals.ca. ?Rents are continuing to fall, even as the weather starts to warm up.? Nationally, average asking rents fell to $2,008 in March, a 35-month low, marking the 18th consecutive month of year-over-year declines. Rents dropped by 5 per cent annually, the largest decrease since the COVID-19 pandemic. Across the province, most major markets saw similar declines. Rents fell 5.1 per cent in British Columbia, five per cent in Ontario and four per cent in Alberta.
