1) How do I report a scam or fake listing?

If you come across a suspicious, scam, or fake listing on Sulekha, you can report it by:

  • Opening the listing and clicking on the “Flag” option.
  • Selecting the reason (e.g., miscategorised, invalid contact details) and submitting your report.
  • Our support team will review the listing and take necessary action.

You can also email us at us.sulekha@sulekha.com or call +1-512-788-5300 / +1-512-231-9226 to report scams directly. Please include the Ad ID or link, and if you have screenshots or any other proof, attach them as well - this will help us investigate faster and take appropriate action.

Safety Tip: Never share advance payments, personal financial details, or sensitive documents until you have verified the property and advertiser in person.

2) How do you ensure advertiser/responder authenticity?

At Sulekha, we take multiple steps to maintain a safe and trustworthy platform:

OTP Verification:

  • Both advertisers and responders must verify their phone number/email through OTP before posting or responding.

Profile & Listing Checks:

  • Ads are monitored for accuracy, inappropriate content, or suspicious activity.
  • Property/room images are reviewed to ensure relevance and quality.
  • Duplicate ads or spam content are flagged.
  • Rent amount is cross-checked against local rent trends to detect unrealistic pricing.
  • Suspicious accounts and activities are flagged and monitored to prevent misuse.

User Reporting:

  • Users can “Flag” suspicious or fake ads.
  • Our support team promptly reviews and removes invalid or scam listings.

Advanced Safety Measures

  • Unusual login patterns or mass posting behavior is monitored and restricted.
  • Known scam numbers, emails, and IPs are blacklisted.
  • Old or inactive ads are regularly cleaned up to keep listings fresh.
  • Fake photos, Copy-paste descriptions, or misleading keywords are reviewed.

Priority for Prime Members:

  • Prime ads get higher visibility and faster responses.
  • Prime profiles go through stricter verification for added trust.
  • Responders connecting with Prime Members enjoy a safer, quicker experience.

Important: While we strive to keep the platform safe, we always recommend doing your own due diligence - such as meeting in person, verifying property details, and avoiding advance payments to unverified individuals.

3) What happens after I report a scam?

Once you report a scam or fake listing on Sulekha:

  • Your report is immediately sent to our Product and Support team.
  • The team reviews the listing and verifies the details against our fraud detection checks.
  • If the listing is found to be fake, misleading, or in violation of our policies, it will be removed from the platform.
  • The advertiser’s account may be suspended or permanently banned depending on the severity.
  • If needed, we may also block the responder linked to fraudulent activity.
